BIRTH : 9.November.1989

BIRTH PLACE : Göppingen, Germany

BRIEF FAMILY HISTORY :

-Kevin Deckert studied Design at Cornish College of the Arts (BFA 1998)
with an emphasis on Illustration.
-Soon after college he began working as a scenic artist for several theatres in Seattle.
-He served as the Master Scenic Artist for two seasons at the Intiman
Theatre before his girlfriend felt it was a good idea to move to New
York City.
-Since that time he has worked on numerous off-Broadway productions
and was recently made a member of United Scenic Artist local 829.
-Big-time movie painting can be seen in his future.
-Kevin is very happy to be a part of this production.

i think his was motivated by his longing for freedom
and it is relaxing for him to write poems
about what he feels and it is quite fun .

Freedom

What is freedom? Nobody knows.
What do I think is freedom?

Freedom is,
when you can do what you like
Without ever hurting somebody

Freedom is,
when you are healthy,
Not trammelled in your bed

Freedom is,
when you are in free charge of your time
And not dominated by a watch

Freedom is,
when you can say what you think
As long as it doesn’t hurt somebody else

Freedom is,
when you can make a mistake
Without getting immediately punished for it

Freedom is,
when you can go and get milk
Whenever you want some

Freedom is,
The one thing we all want to have,
The one thing that none of us really has,
The one thing each of us defines different,
The one thing we will never have………
Freedom is…………a dream

PARAPHRASED VERSION

Nobody knows what is freedom
I think freedom is?

It is,
When we can do anything
When no bad thoughts in mind

It is,
When sickness does not come
and we are not in bed

It is,
When we control our own time
and not by a watch

It is,
When we are free to express ouselves
so long it is not hurtful

It is,
When we make mistakes
and not scolded on the spot

It is,
When we take milk
if we feel like drinking

Freedom is,
The longing that each of us wants
The thing that no one owns
The meaning that is different to each and everyone
The thing that no one will ever own

POEM ANALYSIS

THEME:
I think he wants to have freedom
and he feels kind of miserable.
Maybe he thinks if he have freedom
he can have all the thing he mentioned in the poem.
He wants to tell everyone that freedom
is a thing that no one ever has,
it is just a dream.

POETIC DEVICE USED:

Alliteration - The repetition of initial consonant sounds, either in consecutive words, or in the first word of each line.

Repetition - Repeating of words, phrases, lines, sounds, or stanzas.
(Freedom is,when you ... )
Others: free verse .

MOOD AND TONE:
Longing for freedom ;
does not believe that anyone owns freedom.

First person point of view.
i think he chooses this narrator as
he is writing what he feels ,
and not what other people feels .

POEM RELATES TO MY EVERYDAY EXPERIENCE:
I don't think i need to have freedom and
i think anyone around me also does not
long for freedom, its something that we can
control by planning our own time properly.

WHY I CHOSE THIS POEM:
I think this poem is very meaningful,
and it fits the description of freedom that i have in mind.
Freedom is what i suppose,
a thing that all teenagers want,
and i like the line
' freedom is the one thing that none of us really has'.
